- Go to your network connections.
- START -> CONTROL PANEL -> NETWORK CONNECTIONS on XP.
- START -> CONTROL PANEL -> NETWORK AND SHARING CENTER -> MANAGE NETWORK CONNECTIONS on Vista.
- Right click on LOCAL AREA CONNECTION and left click on DISABLE.
- Unplug the ethernet cable from the computer.
- Shut down the computer.
- Unplug the power cable from the modem.
- Wait 30 – 45 seconds.
- Plug the power cable into the modem.
- Wait 30 - 45 seconds or until the modem has completed its start up sequence and established a connection with the internet. Check for the "Online," "Cable," "Cable Link," or "Internet" light to become solid.
- Start up the computer.
- Wait until the computer has completed its start up sequence.
- Go to your network connections.
- START -> CONTROL PANEL -> NETWORK CONNECTIONS on XP.
- START -> CONTROL PANEL -> NETWORK AND SHARING CENTER -> MANAGE NETWORK CONNECTIONS on Vista.
- Right click on LOCAL AREA CONNECTION and left click on ENABLE.
- When the status of the adapter shows "A network cable is unplugged," wait 15 – 20 seconds.
- Plug the ethernet cable into the PC.
- Wait for the status of the adapter to show "Connected."
- Open your browser.
If the adapter shows "Limited or no connectivity," call Microsoft for instructions on how to clear the Winsock file through the command prompt.
